Research
I am a mixed-methods "digital ethnographer" whose research questions are inspired by the humans and organizations within the communities in which I live and work. My research can be segmented into two broad streams, which are Technology, Risk, & Resilience, and Technology & Society. My work has been accessed by federal agencies, local governments, and major technology firms. Regarding my research in Technology, Risk, & Resilience, I draw on my corporate risk management background to examine how organizations and people navigate cybersecurity threats, cybercrime, IT disruptions, and digital infrastructure risks, particularly in regard to technology-driven skill set degradation and legacy systems. My research in Technology & Society investigates the digital divide, online communities, and the impacts of organizational decision-making on human beings amid emerging technologies. Through my work, I hope to advance academic discourse in minimizing the harms and increasing the benefits of technology while shaping policies and industry best practices.

I am open to research partnerships in any of the aforementioned areas for academic publications. If your workgroup (or you) would like to partner for a research study, please email me at atiyaavery3@gmail.com . I'd love to learn more!
